The City of Monterey in Monterey County is located on Monterey Bay along the Pacific coast in Central California. The city is noted for its beautiful coastline, historic downtown area and the worldclass Monterey Bay Aquarium. It is also home to the Monterey American Viticultural Area, Cannery Row, Fisherman's Wharf and the annual Monterey Jazz Festival.

Monterey also has much to offer anyone who wants to dip into California's history including several museums, and more than thirty carefully preserved historic buildings. A popular museum, is MY Museum (Monterey County Youth Museum). This museum recently moved into a new and much larger facility in Old Monterey. Monterey is also home to California Historic Landmark Number One, the Custom House.

Port Location – The Monterey Harbor and Municipal Marina are located in the city of Monterey, along Del Monte Avenue.

Transport Links – Amtrak's Coast Starlight passes through nearby Salinas. Amtrak runs a bus service from the station to the major hotels of Monterey.
MST runs a bus service (which is a part of Amtrak's Thruway) from San Jose to Monterey Transit Plaza (temporarily diverted to nearby stops for road construction).
The recently reorganized Monterey Peninsula Airport offers regular flights to San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Denver, Salt Lake City, and Las Vegas. From the airport a short drive will take you west along Highway 68 and onto southbound Highway 1, where the two right lanes lead straight downtown.
