KINDLE OASIS
E-readers are divisive. There are the total converts
who now never read anything else, and the die-hard
book worms who prefer the paper versions. If you’re
travelling though it is pretty hard to beat them, if
only for the ability to travel with unlimited reading
material for the less than the size and weight of a
magazine. Amazon’s Kindle has long been the major
player in the e-reader market and now Amazon
has released Oasis – a waterproof version, perfect
for reading in the hotel bathtub or spa pool. Oasis
offers Kindle’s largest, highest-resolution display
and reads like real paper without glare, even in
bright sunlight. It also comes with Audible audio
book technology so you can read with your ears as
well. A single charge of Kindle Oasis lasts for weeks
and it is available in 8GB or 32GB storage options.
90 FUN PUPPY1
ROBOTIC SUITCASE
Hands-free, automated suitcases are the new
travel must-have gimmick and there are a few
good ones out there, but we’re picking this one
as a favourite, possibly because of the name. This
Puppy can balance itself as it moves forward using
Segway technology so it can travel either vertically
or horizontally as it dutifully follows you through
the airport. It is controlled by a hand-held remote
and has a fingerprint scanner for ultimate security.
And if the mood takes you can still pull it along by
the handle. It’s not out till later in the year, so keep
an eye out for it.
SONY WF-SP700N
NOISE-CANCELLING HEADPHONES
In-ear noise-cancelling headphones are great for tuning out
engine noise on long flights, but they’re often uncomfortable
to wear, and easy to get tangled in as you try and climb over
your fellow passengers on the way to the bathroom. Sony’s
slimline WF-SP700N Bluetooth earbuds are the first “true
wireless” earbuds to have digital noise cancellation. As well
as a “true wireless” design much like Apple’s AirPods, the
sweat-proof WF-SP700N has an ambient sound mode so you
can amplify surrounding noise when you’re running around
busy city streets and want to stay hyper-aware. The battery
life of the Sony WF-SP700N is limited to three hours, but the
carry case stores another six hours of charge.
