AMSTERDAM FOG
We had a wonderful five-night stay in Amsterdam
in a beautiful apartment on the picturesque
Prinsengracht Canal. I took this shot early one
morning from one of its quaint overbridges.
You must experience this city from the water during
your stay: there are hop-on, hop-off canal boats,
canal cruises that include meals or not, small self-
drive motor boats and pedal boats that
are a lot of fun.
Amsterdam has a fantastic line-up of museums to
suit all interests, such as Anne Frank’s House, the
Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum and even
the Heineken Factory. Hiring a bike is a must when
in Amsterdam: we hired tandem bikes and rode
24 kilometres along the bank of the Amstel River
and back. It’s a lovely way to see the numerous
canal houseboats and spot a few windmills. In
Amsterdam, cyclists take priority on the roads
over cars and pedestrians.

LOW-FLYING PELICAN!

I took this photo while standing on the beach of San
Cristóbal Island in the Galápagos archipelago. As
the sun was setting I took a series of photos of the
Sleeping Lion rock formation (also known as León
Dormido) which is a favourite with divers due to the
exceptional clarity of the water and the abundant
sea life. Out the corner of my eye I spotted an
approaching pelican flying low along the beach and
I managed to get this great shot.
