WALK SYDNEY’S HISTORY
Get up close and personal with the living history and
heritage of Sydney with The Rocks Walking Tours.
The 90-minute guided walks recount the story
of Sydney right from the beginning as you stroll
along the shoreline of Sydney Harbour with views
across to the Sydney Opera House, Harbour
Bridge, past Campbell’s Cove and Cadman’s
Cottage.
The tour takes guests down hidden alleyways,
into secluded courtyards and along cobbled lanes
to discover the nooks and crannies of The Rocks,
and hear about the living history and heritage of
Australia’s first British settlement. The expert
guides have plenty of stories to recount about the
First Fleet in 1788, the Rum Rebellion of 1808 and the
plague of 1900, the building of the Sydney Harbour
Bridge in the 1920s and the diabolical 1970s plan to
demolish The Rocks and the green bans that saved it.
And of course, you hear all about the characters and
rogues who called the place home.
Today, The Rocks is renowned for having the oldest
streets in Sydney which are dotted with beautifully
restored 19th-century buildings.
