A cruise through the Three Gorges, the most famous and striking section of the Yangtze, is the perfect way to admire the magnificent river landscapes.
The shortest and most dramatic of the Three Gorges is the Qutang Gorge. It has an entrance guarded by two mountains – Chijia Shan (Red Passage
Mountain) and Baiyan Shan (White Salt Mountain) – near the town of Fengjie, about 500 kilometres downstream from Chongqing.
Wu Gorge, ‘Witches Gorge’ as it is commonly known, features 12 unique peaks which are often hidden by peaceful mist. The third gorge, Xiling,
is the Yangtze’s main gorge. It is the longest and deepest, with towering cliffs rising to over 1200 metres.
Marvel at the enormous Three Gorges Dam Project, which involved 30,000 labourers during construction. The project was completed in 2009,
and saw 20 towns and approximately 1.3 million people relocated. This extraordinary feat of engineering provides a large portion of China’s energy.
