Note:  The airline may have partnerships with other airlines and your flight may be operated by another airline. For journeys to/from the U.S., the baggage allowances of the airline that ticketed the first segment of your travel should apply throughout your travel. For travel that does not involve the U.S., you should check with the operating airline for information about their baggage allowances; the other airline's baggage allowances may be more restrictive and you could be charged for extra baggage by the other airline.


Carry-on/Cabin Baggage Allowance

  • Passengers in Swiss First or Swiss Business are allowed 2 pieces of cabin baggage, while passengers in Swiss Economy are allowed 1 piece.
  • Your hand baggage is up to 55cm × 40cm × 20cm (21.5 in × 15.75 in × 7.75 in) including handle, pockets and wheels.
  • Your hand baggage weight should not exceed 8 kg (17.5 lb).
  • In addition to the hand baggage, the following items are allowed on board if necessary:
    • Handbag, laptop bag or shoulder bag (max. 40 x 30 x 10 cm)
    • 1 pair of crutches, arm or leg splints, other kinds of prostheses

  • Traveling with an infant - the following items are allowed on board
    • 1 baby carrier or 1 collapsible pram (as checked baggage) or 1 car seat

Checked Baggage Dimensions

The sum of the length + width + height of the bag should be 158 cm (62 inches) or smaller inclusive of handle, pockets and wheels.

The airline may have specific requirements and fees for transporting sporting equipment and musical instruments. Please check with the airline for limitations, transportation requirements and fee information.

  • HON, SEN, Star Gold: One additional bag for class of service booked (Economy - max 23 kg; Business/First - max 32 kg)
  • HON, SEN, Star Gold (except to/from/via U.S. or Canada): 1 golf bag allowed as well
  • Frequent Traveller: 1 additional bag in Economy (23 kg max)
  • LX Golf Traveller Members: 1 golf bag allowed

Charges for extra and overweight baggage

Your baggage will be classified as excess baggage if it exceeds the permitted weight and/or dimensions.


The excess baggage rates apply for one route. Connecting flights within 24 hours will be considered as one route. Return flights must be paid for in the local currency at the departure airport.


Any baggage exceeding 32 kg must be sent as Cargo and be pre-arranged or you can either divide the weight over several pieces of baggage, or check in heavy pieces of baggage as freight.
