Important update regarding UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA)
For anyone planning a trip to the UK next year, here is what you need to know (especially those with dual passports):
From 25 February 2026, the UK’s new ETA system becomes mandatory for all visa-exempt travellers.
What does this mean?
✈ All British and Irish citizens DO NOT require an ETA, however, travellers MUST enter using a valid British or Irish passport.
✈ Dual citizens– As a dual national travelling into the UK on a foreign passport (e.g. New Zealand passport but born in the UK or eligible for British Citizenship) you can travel to the UK using either:
• A valid UK passport or Irish passport
• A certificate of entitlement
You can apply for a passport or certificate of entitlement if you need one.
✈ Renew your passport early if required – If you have a British or Irish passport nearing expiry, please get in early to avoid delays.
