** This Premium Economy and Business baggage allowance is only available on Air New Zealand operated and ticketed flights when checking in with Air New Zealand.
Note: The airline may have partnerships with other airlines and your flight may be operated by another airline. For journeys to/from the U.S., the baggage allowances of the airline that ticketed the first segment of your travel should apply throughout your travel. For travel that does not involve the U.S., you should check with the operating airline for information about their baggage allowances; the other airline's baggage allowances may be more restrictive and you could be charged for extra baggage by the other airline.
Carry-on/Cabin Baggage Allowance
- Customers may take one piece of cabin baggage onboard with a maximum weight of 7kg (15lbs)
- Business Class, Premium Economy & connecting Business Class customers, Air New Zealand Elite, Gold and Star Alliance Gold customers are permitted to carry two pieces weighing a maximum combined total of 14kgs (30lbs).
- Only one item of cabin baggage is permitted for all passengers flying to, from or transiting through all US airports. This item should not exceed maximum total linear dimensions (length + width + height) of 118cm (46.5") and 7kg (15lbs) in weight
- In addition to your allowance, you may also carry onboard one small personal item such as a handbag, duty free bag or slim line laptop bag, which must be able to fit under the seat in front of you.
- As a safety precaution, all cabin baggage must be able to fit in the overhead lockers or under the seat in front of you. Each item should therefore not exceed total linear dimensions (length + width + height) of 118cm (46.5").
Checked Baggage Dimensions
Any piece of baggage that weighs over 23 kg (50 lb) but less than 32 kg (70 lb) will be subject to an overweight charge.
The maximum weight limit of 32 kg (70 lb) for any individual piece of baggage is an industry standard. It does not relate to your overall entitlement but is a safety measure to reduce injuries to baggage handling staff. Any item over 32 kg (70 lb) will require repacking. Each piece of baggage should not exceed total dimensions (length + width + height) of 158cm (62 in).
For all domestic flights, in addition to other allowances, baby strollers and car seats are permitted free of charge, when travelling with an infant. If you are on a domestic flight as part of an international ticket, then the international checked baggage allowance applies.
Additional Baggage Allowance Information
In addition to any other allowances, an infant and or child is permitted to carry a stroller and or car seat free of charge, regardless of fare type including when their fare does not include a checked baggage allowance. Strollers and car seats need to be suitably packed with all straps stowed away (ideally in a travel bag) in order to be carried.
Sporting Equipment and Musical Instruments
If you are travelling with items that exceed maximum dimensions for checked baggage, these are classified as oversized. The airline may have specific requirements and fees for transporting sporting equipment and musical instruments. Please check with the airline for limitations, transportation requirements and fee information.
Charges for extra and overweight baggage
Any piece of baggage that weighs over 23kg but less than 32kg and/or exceeds the total linear dimensions (length+width+height) of 158cm (62") will be subject to an overweight/oversize.
If you are travelling with excess baggage, please remember to allow sufficient time to complete the necessary formalities at check-in and also remember your excess baggage will be carried subject to space availability on your flight. For other routes not listed below, please contact the airline directly.
