Other rules

  • Regional exceptions may lead to a higher free baggage allowance in Economy Class, they are reflected in your ticket or booking confirmation.
  • Other rules and tariffs may apply on flights operated by our partner airlines (Codeshare).
  • If you combine an Austrian Airlines flight with those of another carrier, please note that this airline's rules will also apply to Austrian flights if operating the longest or most significant part of the journey. Therefore we kindly recommend you to check your free baggage allowance stated on your ticket or on your booking confirmation.  In this case the weight concept might also be applicable - then your free baggage allowance is based on the total baggage weight and the number of pieces is not restricted, e.g. 20K (for 20kg) 30K (for 30kg).
  • According to US-DOT and CTA (Canadian Transportation Agency) regulations, it is the first carrier stated on your ticket who defines the baggage rules applicable to the entire journey.

Note: The airline may have partnerships with other airlines and your flight may be operated by another airline. For journeys to/from the U.S., the baggage allowances of the airline that ticketed the first segment of your travel should apply throughout your travel. For travel that does not involve the U.S., you should check with the operating airline for information about their baggage allowances; the other airline's baggage allowances may be more restrictive and you could be charged for extra baggage by the other airline.

Carry-on/Cabin Baggage Allowance

  • All carry-on baggage must be stored in the overhead baggage compartment or under the seat.
  • A single item of hand baggage may not exceed the dimensions 55 x 40 x 23 cm (21.5 x 15.5 x 9 in).
  • Economy Class: 1 item weighing up to 8 kg (17.6 lb) free of charge.
  • Business Class: 2 items weighing up to 8 kg (17.6 lb) each free of charge.
    • Depending on the operating aircraft type and/or fulfilling safety requirements of national authorities, in exceptional cases the hand baggage allowance for our Business class passengers may be reduced to 1 piece of hand baggage only.
  • In addition to your hand luggage you may take one personal item with a maximum size of 40 x 30 x 10 cm (16 x 12 x 4 in) into the passenger cabin, e.g one lady’s handbag or one laptop bag or one shoulder-strapped bag.
  • For flights departing from the United States, 1 carry-on item only, irrespective of class.
  • For a child younger than 2 years of age, you may bring on board 1 baby basket or 1 child car seat or 1 fully collapsible stroller (max 10 kg / 22 lb)
  • Passengers who exceed their allowance will be required to check their carry-on baggage, and additional checked baggage charges may apply.
