Any Passengers travelling from India to the USA (and vice-versa) with Virgin Atlantic for their entire journey, which involves a connecting flight via London Heathrow, will be entitled to an additional bag up to 23 kg . Includes partner airline/code share flights.


Note: The airline may have partnerships with other airlines and your flight may be operated by another airline. For journeys to/from the U.S., the baggage allowances of the airline that ticketed the first segment of your travel should apply throughout your travel. For travel that does not involve the U.S., you should check with the operating airline for information about their baggage allowances; the other airline's baggage allowances may be more restrictive and you could be charged for extra baggage by the other airline..


Infants Allowance

Passengers travelling with children or infants will be entitled to take one fully collapsible pushchair or a car seat in addition to their free checked baggage allowance. Infants not entitled to a seat are now entitled to one piece of checked luggage weighing no more than 23 kilos (50 lb). They are also entitled to one piece of carry-on luggage weighing no more than 6 kilos. Extra baggage cannot be purchased for infants on any route.

In Upper Class, your carry-on baggage can also include one garment bag, 20cm (8 inches) thick - this should not exceed 12kg in weight. This will count towards your two bag limit.

Additional Cabin Items Permitted In addition to the cabin baggage allowance, the following personal items may be carried on board:
  • A handbag, pocketbook or purse i.e. which is appropriate to normal travelling dress and is not being used as a container for the transportation of articles which could otherwise be regarded as baggage.
  • An overcoat or wrap.
  • An umbrella (pointed or/and sharp prohibited) or walking stick.
  • A small camera and/or pair of binoculars.
  • A reasonable amount of reading matter for the flight.
  • Infants food for consumption in flight.
  • A small amount of duty free goods.
  • Personal headphones may be used as long as they are fitted with the standard 3.5mm jack.
Passengers travelling with children /infants can bring a fully collapsible buggy and car seat.
Please note that a garment bag cannot be used as your carry-on baggage unless it fits the dimensions of the carry-on baggage allowance. If you'd like to bring one but it exceeds 23 x 36 x 56 cm, it will need to be as additional checked in baggage.

If you want to take your laptop onboard, you'll need to place it in your original carry-on baggage or check your carry-on baggage in.

Passengers must be able to place their carry-on baggage unaided into the overhead bins on board the aircraft.
Passengers connecting onto Virgin Atlantic and travelling in Upper Class are entitled to the Upper Class baggage allowance

Sports Equipment 

Virgin Atlantic allows one piece of sports equipment in addition to your free baggage allowance at no extra charge, as long as your sports equipment does not weigh more than 23 kg (50 lb). There are a few restrictions that are specific to the sports equipment you want to take with you. Please check with the airline for limitations, transportation requirements and fee information.


Passengers carrying one musical instrument in its case, which is too large to fit within the cabin baggage allowance, may carry it through the airport security checkpoint subject to the relevant Airport Authority approval, where it will be taken at the departure gate for loading into the hold of the aircraft.


This item will incur excess baggage charges if it is in excess of your free baggage allowance.


Gold card holders 

One additional bag at 23 kilos (50lb), irrespective of the cabin flown. Please check with Virgin Atlantic for your additional baggage allowance.

Allowances for people with limited mobility (wheelchairs)

Wheelchairs, sticks, crutches or walking frames are carried free of charge.


Small mobility aids such as crutches, sticks or wheelchair accessories (not spare batteries for electric wheelchairs), may be taken into the cabin, provided they can be safely and securely stowed, if this cannot be accomplished the item will need to be carried in the aircraft hold.
