  • Itinerary

    Day 1: Lima
    You will be met and transferred to your hotel.

    Day 2: Lima
    Enjoy a morning city tour, exploring the historical centre with its impressive Presidential Palace and colonial buildings. See the Inca pyramid of Huaca Hullamarca and visit the Santo Domingo convent where you will have the chance to explore the catacombs. Later in the day visit the magnificent Larco Herrera Museum, home to a fantastic collection of Inca and Pre-Inca artefacts and weavings. Enjoy lunch in the excellent restaurant on site.

    Day 3: Lima > Puerto Maldonado
    Fly to the jungle airport at Puerto Maldonado and transfer by boat on the Madre de Dios River to your very comfortable jungle lodge, home for the next three nights. In the afternoon begin sightseeing with your expert naturalist guide.

    Days 4 & 5: Peruvian Amazon
    Spend the next two days and nights discovering the wonders of Amazonia. Partake in a wide range of activities including jungle and canopy walks, river trips, bird watching, night walks and piranha fishing expeditions. Your small group will have both a native Indian guide and an English-speaking naturalist, who between them will reveal the incredible diversity of flora and fauna found here.

    Day 6: Puerto Maldonado > Sacred Valley
    Fly to Cuzco and transfer some 90 minutes to a lower altitude in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, making adjustment to altitude much more comfortable. Stay two nights in an idyllic setting, your base to explore the many surrounding Inca ruins and picturesque towns. Lunch and dinner are included today.

    Day 7: Sacred Valley
    Enjoy a full day private sightseeing tour of the Sacred Valley. Your first stop will be Maras, an amazing collection of over 3,000 salt extraction ponds dating back over 2000 years. Then visit the incredible site of Moray with impressive circular terracing that was in Inca times an agricultural experiment. After a delicious lunch during which you also enjoy a traditional Peruvian Paso horse show, explore the hillside fortress ruins of Ollantaytambo, scene of the last great battle between the Inca armies and Spanish conquistadors in January 1537.

    Day 8: Sacred Valley > Machu Picchu
    This morning you will embark on a captivating 90-minute voyage aboard the opulent Belmond Hiram Bingham train to reach the majestic Machu Picchu. Upon arrival, immerse yourself in a guided exploration of these awe-inspiring ruins, followed by ample time for independent exploration. As the day ends, unwind and indulge in the comforts of your luxurious 5-star hotel nestled in Aguas Calientes, ensuring a restful and rejuvenating overnight stay amidst the enchanting surroundings.

    Day 9: Machu Picchu > Sacred Valley > Cuzco
    Indulge in a leisurely morning, embracing relaxation or opting for one of the hotel’s curated guided tours. Afterwards, immerse yourself in the vibrant markets of Aguas Calientes, brimming with local culture and artisanal treasures. As the afternoon unfolds, embark on Peru Rail’s Vistadome train for a picturesque journey to the Sacred Valley. Upon arrival, transfer back to Cuzco to the exquisite Aranwa Hotel housed within a meticulously restored 16th-century mansion.

    Day 10: Cuzco
    Enjoy a morning tour of the city of Cuzco and its surrounds. Visit San Pedro market and then proceed to the main square where you will enjoy a tour of the impressive Cathedral. See the impressive Inca fortress of Sacsayhuaman and admire a stunning view across the city of Cuzco. You will also visit the Inca Temple of the Sun, Koricancha, considered the finest example of Inca stonework ever discovered.

    Day 11: Cuzco
    Enjoy the day at leisure and explore the colonial city of Cuzco. There are a number of excellent museums, art galleries and excellent markets you may wish to visit, or just soak up the ambience of your wonderful hotel. You will be supplied with tickets that allow free entry to a number of historical buildings and other points of interest around Cuzco.

    Day 12: Cuzco > Lake Titicaca
    This morning board the luxurious Belmond Andean Explorer train for your three day journey to Arequipa, enjoying wonderful cuisine and well-appointed cabins. Disembark at the interesting archaeological site at Raqchi and later stop at La Raya, the highest point on the journey. The scenery is wonderful and is complimented by entertainment provided on board. Late afternoon arrival in Puno on the shores of Lake Titicaca. Spend overnight on board the train.

    Day 13: Lake Titicaca > Arequipa
    After an early breakfast you will enjoy a range of cultural activities at Lake Titicaca. Take a traditional boat ride to the ‘floating’ Uros Islands which have been carefully created using woven reeds. The Uros have lived on these islands for centuries. Continue by boat to the beautiful Taquile Island to enjoy demonstrations from traditional dancers and artisanal weavers. Later in the afternoon return to the train and continue your journey onto Arequipa.

    Day 14: Arequipa
    Admire the breath-taking scenery of Lake Languillas and visit the Sumbay Caves, home to fascinating 8,000 year old Neolithic cave paintings. Enjoy lunch on board the train as you continue towards the beautiful ‘white city’ of Arequipa. Transfer to your hotel on arrival.

    Day 15: Arequipa
    Enjoy a tour of this very picturesque city, including a visit to the wonderfully restored Santa Catalina Convent which dates from 1579. Visit markets, and marvel at the beautiful cathedral on the lovely main square.

    Day 16: Arequipa
    Transfer to the airport for departure.
